This week in The Loft: Author Kate McKeever!

Joining me today in The Loft is romance author Kate McKeever. Kate writes small town and paranormal romance. Born and raised in the south, Kate's books include the Brotherhood Protector series, as well a holiday romance and a paranormal romance anthology.

Author Kate McKeever

S:  Welcome, Kate! Thanks so much for joining me today!

What should people know about you?

K:  That I’m full of ideas. I love writing and have always loved reading a variety of genres. Expect the unexpected from me when it comes to writing. For instance, I’ve written several books that are considered sweet, with no sex scenes. But I’ve also written paranormal romantic suspense and military romance that has steamy to sexy scenes. And there are other genres in my imagination that will probably see the light of day in the future. Stay tuned!

S:  Why write romance?

K:  I write romance because I grew up reading romance novels, sometimes in secret. I loved reading Harlequin romances when my mother took me to the beauty parlor with her and usually managed to sneak one out of the shop to borrow for a week. Through reading those romances, along with turn of the century ones my great aunt had and classics like Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice,  I began to love the journeys the hero and heroine went through in an effort to find their soul mates.

S:  I used to read my Mom's romance novels under the covers at night with a flashlight! I wish she would have let me read the ones at the beauty parlor! Where do you do your best thinking?

K:  Ironically enough, I do my best thinking when I’m mowing the lawn or doing lawn work. I think it’s when I’m doing something mindless, something that doesn’t require a lot of analyzing or thinking that my brain goes into a zen space and ideas, scenes, even whole books come to me. And I love mowing the lawn!

S:  (Laughs.) That's a new one! What a great excuse to mow the lawn!

Complete this sentence--When one of my books are released, I...

K:  ...I pinch myself. I’ve written and woven stories as long as I can remember and it still thrills me when I see a book in print, as well as when I hear from readers. I’m not sure I’ll ever get over the joy of realizing other people enjoy my made up stories as much as I do.

S:  That really validates your writing, doesn't it? I get so excited when someone likes my books!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

K:  Take the opportunity to live life instead of riding through it. I haven’t taken a lot of chances in my life, when I balance it against other people, such as athletes, soldiers, and such, but for me, I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone to do things I never thought I’d get to do, such as travel, publish books and get a higher education. For me, those things have been dreams that have been realized, but now I have other dreams to fill those slots and I’m looking forward to living life!

S:  (Nods.) I think so many people tend to forget that life should be lived, not simply survived.

Tell me about your upcoming release, "Saint's Fall."

K:  Sure. "Saint's Fall" is another book in the Brotherhood Protector' series. Here's the blurb--

For Luc “Saint” Benatou, the military transformed him from a lost young kid into a fit, driven Seal. Now, forced out of service by an amputation, he is adrift and unsure of his future, his identity. Celie Kean comes to Eagle Rock, Montana to redefine herself. She spent her youth making all the wrong decisions and is determined to find a new way of life in the mountains, if she can escape her old “friends”. Saint and Celie find each other when she is almost killed. Can these two wounded souls start to heal and find love while trying to stay alive?

S:  Wow. That sounds like a complex story, learning to start over, learning to love again.

Where can readers find your book?

K:  My book will be released in April and will be available at all major booksellers.

S:  Kate, thanks so much for joining me today and best of luck with your new release!

  1. I can't wait to read Saint's Fall. I met him in Sinner's Redemption. I know this will be another great book by Kate McKeever.
